History 402A (Dr. Cawthra): Introduction

Welcome to the History 402A "Introduction to Public History" guide for Fall 2025

This guide is intended to supplement our video and in-person instruction sessions this semester, for students to refer back to as they build out their culminating digital exhibit project, Mapping the Atomic West. If you have questions or need assistance, contact the Digital Scholarship Librarian using the information listed on the right.

At the end of these instruction sessions, students will be able to:

• explain why public domain and Creative Commons licensed digital assets can be used free of charge and without violating copyright,
• locate public domain and Creative Commons licensed digital assets,
• analyze an item record to:
  • determine the usage rights associated with that digital asset,
  • identify relevant metadata to use that digital asset as an artifact in their exhibit narrative,
• activate their free CSUF account for ArcGIS StoryMaps, and
• design and publish a digital narrative in ArcGIS StoryMaps.
