As a member of the CSUF community, there are a number of options available to support open-access publishing. This fund aims to reduce the financial barriers presented by Author Publication Charges (APCs) that might prevent faculty and students from publishing in peer-reviewed, open access journals.
Managed through a collaboration between the Pollak Library and the Office of Research and Sponsored Projects (ORSP), the Open Access Publishing Fund provides authors with up to $1500 to cover associated APCs.
To be eligible, the journal must be peer-reviewed and fully open access as indicated by external indexes such as Ulrich’s, or the Directory of Open Access Journals. Hybrid journals, which charge subscriptions and supplemental open access fees, and often user access fees as well, are not eligible. For hybrid options, check out the funds listed below.
Applications are processed through the ORSP's InfoReady portal. Visit the link below for the full fund information and to submit an application.
The CSU chancellor's office negotiated an agreement with Elsevier that allows for any members of the CSU community to publish open access in eligible journals at no cost.
Under this agreement, authors maintain the copyright to their work and can choose between two creative commons licenses for their publication.
This agreement will remain in effect until December 31, 2024.

As a member of the Statewide California Electronic Library Consortium (SCELC), CSUF has a transformative agreement with Cambridge University Press to support Open Access publishing for members of our community. This agreement allows authors to publish eligible articles as OA for free in Cambridge's 387 journals from over 30 subject areas.
This agreement will remain in effect through December 31, 2024.

Along with the University of California system, the CSU system entered into a transformative open access read and publish agreement with the American Chemical Society (ACS) in May 2022. This ACS agreement provides open access publishing support in the 75 premiere chemistry journals the society publishes.
This agreement will remain in effect through December 31, 2025.

The Pollak Library entered into a read and publish deal with The Company of Biologists in Fall 2023. This agreement allows for uncapped, immediate publishing of OA research articles for corresponding authors in their hybrid journals (Development, Journal of Cell Science and Journal of Experimental Biology) and their fully OA journals (Disease Models & Mechanisms and Biology Open).
As a member of the Statewide California Electronic Library Consortium (SCELC), CSUF has a transformative agreement with IOP Publishing that allows for uncapped open access publishing for current members of our community. This agreement includes 76 hybrid and fully OA journals.
This agreement will remain in effect through December 31, 2025.
