Scholarship of Teaching and Learning: Research

This guide contains resources pertaining to the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL)

Finding Books

Books and eBooks can be found with the Libray's online catalog, OneSearch, at the Library's homepage.   For quick searches, simply use the single search box; for detailed searches, click the "Advanced Search" and select the button to "Books & Media (CSUF)".  If we don't have a book in our Library you want, you can expand OneSearch to search all CSU libraries at once, and request the book be sent here (free).  If no other CSU libraries have the book either, you can request the book (again, free) via an InterLibrary Loan request.

Finding Articles

In addition to finding books, the Library Homepage's OneSearch catalog can also find articles.  It meta-searches across all the Library's databases at once.   In the OneSearch Advanced Search, select the circle to "Articles."  Here is a screenshot sample of accessing an article in OneSearch.  Besides OneSearch, for more specific searching, you can search articles in individual databases.  The Library offers over 400 scholarly databases. At the Library's homepage, simply click "Find Databases."  Access is available 24/7 with your CSUF Portal username and password.   Databases are listed alphabetically, or you can used the pulldown menu to sort them by subject.

Organizing Your Research: EndNote

EndNote Basic is a web-based bibliographic manager that enables you to collect and manage references to books, articles, and other materials. Since it is web based, all CSUF students/faculty/staff can access EndNote on-campus or off-campus.

EndNote Basic can help you:

  • Import references from library databases.
  • Organize references in folders for access and use at any time
  • Create formatted reference lists in a variety of publishing styles, including APA and MLA.

Cited Reference Search

Find out who has cited an article you have already found on your topic. See how many times one of your articles has been cited. Use a cited reference search to see what has been published on your topic after the article you have already found.  You can conduct a cited reference search by using:

Google Scholar iconGoogle Scholar
Use Google Scholar to find articles from a wide variety of academic publishers, professional societies, preprint repositories and universities, as well as scholarly articles available across the web. Log in with your CSUF username for additional functionality. See screenshot samples of using Google Scholar.

Scopus iconScopus
