Research guide for mathematics

About MathSciNet

MathSciNet® is a searchable database of reviews, abstracts and bibliographic information for much of the mathematical sciences literature. Over 100,000 new items are added each year, most of them classified according to the Mathematics Subject Classification

Content includes:

  • Expert-written reviews of mathematical literature
  • More than 3.2 million items
  • More than 2 million direct links to original articles from over 1,800 journals
  • More than 100,000 new items are added each year

Mathematics Subject Classification (MSC) Codes

  • The codes correspond to the publication content.
  • You can combine your code with your search strategy.
  • These codes are described as primary and secondary and can be used to narrow your search.  Primary classification have been selected as the most appropriate. For example, 62N10 prepresents Statistics (62), Engineering Statistics (62N) and Quality Control (62N10).
  • Broad areas can be searched using 2 or 3 digits of a classification (e.g. 62 or 62N).  For more information, you can look at primary and secondary code.
