PMP Program Summer 2024: Citation Managers

A library and resource guide for the HCOP Pre-Matriculation Program for Summer 2024.

What are citation managers?

At their simplest, citation managers are programs that allow you to:

  • import citations as you research from databases and catalogs
  • save and organize citations
  • create bibliographies in a variety of formats

Additionally, most of them have additional features such as the ability to:

  • attach pdfs of articles, when available
  • embed citations (footnotes or in-text) into your word processing documents

Most citation managers are either cloud-based applications or standalone software which must be downloaded and installed.

Benefits to using a citation manager

  • Keeps track of your citations for you
  • Ability to create and export an accurate APA reference list with the click of a button
  • Can create specific reference groups for each project that you're working on
  • Share references with colleagues
