This list provides a selection of peer-reviewed scholarly journals that publish research on secondary education issues. Please consult with your professor for suggestions on journals that best match your research topics. 

American Secondary Education  -Serves administrators, teachers, and others. Examines current issues in secondary education and focuses on the major issues facing those involved with secondary education.

High School Journal - Seeks to further the reflective examination of the broad field of secondary education by reporting research, informed opinion, and occassionally, successful practices.

International Journal of Secondary Education -- Request articles by citation using ILL. 

Journal of Technology and Teacher Education - Covers preservice & inservice teacher education, graduate programs in areas such as curriculum & instruction, educational administration, staff development, instructional technology, & educational computing.

Journal of Education and Learning - Multi-disciplinary, peer-refereed open-access international journal which has been established for the dissemination of state-of-the-art knowledge in the field of education, teaching, development, instruction, educational projects and innovations, learning methodologies and new technologies in education and learning.

Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy - Peer-reviewed, intended as an open forum for the literacy & language arts education of older learners. Goals are to encourage innovative ways of teaching & studying literacy & to address problems & faced by educators.

Journal of Adolescent Research - Publishes informative and dynamic articles from a variety of disciplines that focus on development during adolescence (ages 10 to 18) and early emerging adulthood (18-22).

Journal of Early Adolescence -  Publishes articles that increase our understanding of individuals, 10 through 14 years of age, in the life span. The journal is designed to present major theoretical papers, state-of-the-art papers, and current research, as well as reviews of important professional books and early adolescent films and literature.

Journal of Research on Adolescence - Includes studies on methodologies applied to cognitive, physical, emotional, & social development.

Middle School Journal - Refereed journal. Official publication and membership benefit of the Association for Middle Level Education (AMLE), formerly National Middle School Association.

Recommended Journals for Secondary Education Math Teachers

Journal for Research in Mathematics Education (JRME) - An official journal of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), JRME is the premier research journal in mathematics education and is devoted to the interests of teachers and researchers at all levels--preschool through college. JRME is a forum for disciplined inquiry into the teaching and learning of mathematics.

Journal of Mathematical Behavior - The Journal of Mathematical Behavior solicits original research on the learning and teaching of mathematics. We are interested especially in basic research, research that aims to clarify, in detail and depth, how mathematical ideas develop in learners.

Educational Studies in Mathematics - Educational Studies in Mathematics presents new ideas and developments of major importance to practitioners working in the field of mathematical education. It reflects both the variety of research concerns within the field and the range of methods used to study them. Articles deal with didactical, methodological and pedagogical subjects.

Mathematics Teaching in the Middle School (Grades 5-9) - Mathematics Teaching in the Middle School (MTMS) is an official peer-reviewed journal of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and is intended as a resource for middle school students, teachers, and teacher educators. 

Mathematics Teacher (Grades 8-14) - The Mathematics Teacher (MT), an official journal of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, is devoted to improving mathematics instruction from grade 8-14 and supporting teacher education programs. It provides a forum for sharing activities and pedagogical strategies, deepening understanding of mathematical ideas, and linking mathematics education research to practice.

Mathematics Teacher Educator - Mathematics Teacher Educator contributes to building a professional knowledge base for mathematics teacher educators that stems from, develops, and strengthens practitioner knowledge.
