Biology 202:  Welcome to your library instruction session

This guide is intended for use to guide you to the appropriate resources to use when you need scholarly literature.

At the end of the session, you will be able to:

  • Conduct effective search strategies for finding information
  • Use the ACS Style Guide (American Chemical Society)

Assignments

Assignment 1: Do an evidence-based search for information about pros and cons of taking probiotics (Four parts - See assignment). Use the ACS Style Guide for citations and references. 

Assignment 2: Write a research paper (~ 6-8 pages) about a bacteria you have isolated and identified using different biochemical techniques. You will also determine which antibiotics are effective against your bacteria. Include what role the bacteria play in society as well as its beneficial and harmful effects. The required paper will contain a Title, Introduction, Table of Results, Discussion, and Conclusion. The paper must be referenced and cited using the ACS Style Guide.
