What is an Annotated Bibliography?

An annotated bibliography is a list of citations with brief descriptive and evaluative paragraphs, around 200 words each. These annotations help readers assess the relevance, accuracy, and quality of the sources cited.

Helpful Components of an Annotated Bibliography

Bibliographic Information

Provide the standard bibliographic information for each source in APA 7th Edition. This typically includes the author's name, the title of the source, the publication date (if available), and the URL.

Summary

Write a concise summary of the source. Include the main points, arguments, or themes discussed in the source. For videos or lectures, mention the key topics covered.

Evaluation

Assess the credibility and reliability of the source. Consider the author's expertise, the publication platform, currency, and any biases that might be present. For videos, evaluate the production quality and the reputation of the channel or creator.

Relevance to Assignment

Explain how the source is relevant to the assignment. Discuss specific aspects of the source that will contribute to your research and support your thesis or arguments.

Reflection

Include a brief reflection on how the source fits into the broader context of your research. Comment on any unique perspectives or insights the source provides.
