Black History Month: A Celebration of Achievements by African Americans: Books

An online resource guide to complement the 2016 student-curated Pollak Library exhibit on Black History Month

Black History Month Children's Literature

The picture books and young adult novels gathered here showcase a rich array of the African American experience — from historical figures and landmark events  in the Civil Rights Movement, to artists, writers, and musicians who have enriched our nation with their courage and creativity. The books offer personal stories of fighting for civil rights or sharing neighborhood pride. They capture the vital role of music in the African American community and the importance of literacy and educational equal opportunity.
