Journal of Higher Education - Published in affiliation with the American Association for Higher Education. Articles, review essays and book reviews dealing with all aspects of higher education.

Review of Higher Education - The Review of Higher Education provides a forum for discussion of varied issues affecting higher education. The journal advances the study of college- and university-related topics through peer-reviewed articles, essays, reviews and research findings, and by emphasizing systematic inquiry--both quantitative and qualitative--and practical implications. Considered one of the leading research journals in the field, The Review keeps scholars, academic leaders, and public policymakers abreast of critical issues facing higher education today. The Review of Higher Education is the official journal of the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE).

Journal of College Student Development - Journal of College Student Development (JCSD), the largest and leading source of research about college students and the field of student affairs, publishes scholarly articles and reviews from a wide range of academic fields. Since 1959, scholars in student affairs, higher education, sociology, psychology, social work, nursing, business administration, and health sciences have been finding their voice with JCSD. Journal of College Student Development is the official journal of the American College Personnel Association (ACPA).

ASHE Higher Education Report - Provides analysis of difficult higher education issues, based on work with research & literature.

Race Ethnicity and Education - Race Ethnicity and Education is the leading peer-reviewed journal on racism and race inequality in education. The journal provides a focal point for international scholarship, research and debate publishing original and challenging research that explores the dynamics of race, racism and ethnicity in education policy, theory and practice.

Journal of Education Policy - The Journal of Education Policy aims to discuss, analyse and debate policymaking, policy implementation and policy impact at all levels of and in all facets of education. It offers a forum for theoretical debate, and historical and comparative studies, as well as policy analysis and evaluation reports. The journal also analyses key policy documents and reviews relevant texts and monographs.

Journals about community college or student affairs practice: 

Community College Review - A refereed, scholarly journal of original articles on both the theoretical and practical aspects of community college education in the areas of administration and management, changing technology, instruction, programming and curriculum and student needs.

Journal of Student Affairs Research and Practice - The vision of the Journal of Student Affairs Research and Practice (JSARP) is to publish the most rigorous, relevant, and well-respected research and practice making a difference in student affairs practice. JSARP especially encourages manuscripts that are unconventional in nature and that engage in methodological and epistemological extensions that transcend the boundaries of traditional research inquiries.

New Directions for Student Services - A series of thematic journals offering guidelines and programs for aiding students in their total development--emotional, social and physical as well as intellectual.

Community College Journal of Research & Practice  - The only two-year college journal that is international in scope and purpose, Community College Journal of Research and Practice is published twelve times per year. The journal is a multidisciplinary forum for researchers and practitioners in higher education and the behavioral and social sciences. It promotes an increased awareness of community college issues by providing an exchange of ideas, research, and empirically tested educational innovations.

Journal of Applied Research in the Community College - (via ERIC) - This semi-annual refereed journal publishes articles relating to such issues as detailing the objectives, methods, and findings of studies conducted to assess student outcomes, evaluating programs and services, and projecting the impacts of proposed legislation. Communicates innovative practices in applied research that supports educational and administrative decision-making at the institutional, state, and national levels.

College Student Journal - Publishes original investigations and theoretical papers dealing with college student values, attitudes, opinions, and learning. Topics include the areas of undergraduate, graduate, and professional schools, and may also include selected contributions dealing with college preparation.

NASPA Journal - NASPA Journal About Women in Higher Education (NJAWHE) focuses on issues affecting all women in higher education: students, student affairs staff, faculty, and other administrative groups. The journal is intended for both practitioners and researchers and includes articles that focus on empirical research, pedagogy, and administrative practice.

Journals about organization & management theory: 

Journal of Leadership Studies - The mission of the Journal of Leadership Studies is to publish leadership research and theoretical contributions that bridge the gap between scholarship and practice and that exemplify critical inquiry into contemporary organizational issues and paradigms. The journal promotes interdisciplinary and interorganizational theory, fostering dialogue that transcends industry specific contexts and that explores leadership's role in improving organizational practices and human life. Published material in the journal will include research-based and theoretical papers that explicitly address leadership on various social, cultural, and organizational contexts.
