Human Communications 102: Websites
When searching google a wide range of things show up in the results: blogs, videos, images, government, corporate, and commercial websites. Using the search techniques below will limit results to government, educational, and organization/association websites.
Using the :.gov will limit the search results to only government websites. This is a good way to locate statistics and government reports on a topic.
Using the :.edu will limit the search results to only education and university websites. Again, this is a good way to locate statistics and reports on a topic produced by university research departments.
Using the :.org will limit the search results to only organization websites. These results are bit more difficult to sort through, as anyone can purchase a .org domain. This can be a good way to locate general information, statistics, and reports on a topic. Be sure to consider the evaluating sources criteria on the previous tab regarding when using .org websites. Also, try to avoid websites that:
- Have a lot of advertisements
- Are selling products
- Do not have an 'About' page or section
- Make claims without evidence
