Resources for Conducting Oral Interviews

These websites contain advice and resources for conducting both formal and informal oral interviews for the creation of oral histories and other purposes.

  • Oral History Association is an international organization dedicated to "... bring together all persons interested in oral history as a way of collecting and interpreting human memories to foster knowledge and human dignity." Check out the tabs for Oral History, Technology, and Resources.

  • Society of California Archivists (SCA) has a Preserviing Your History Brochure Series, available in English, Spanish, and Chinese, that includes a brochure on Doing Oral History as well as other topics of interest such as preserving family photographs and other family documents. These are especially useful if your interviewee starts to show you family pictures or other family momentos and documents.
