The Government Documents Section provides access to government information in both electronic and tangible formats. It consists of four collections: United States, California, Local City/County/Regional, and International. A government document is any material in any format having the imprint of a government or intergovernmental agency. It can be a book, journal, hearing, law, poster, map, computer file, electronic publication, sound/video recording, et cetera. All documents available in the Pollak Library are fully cataloged and searchable through OneSearch. In addition, many records also provide links to electronic versions of materials available online.
Attention: The Government Documents section is currently located on the 6th Floor of the Library, South side. Due to the library remodel and earthquake damage to this floor, this section is not currently accessible to the public. For all documents requests for items on the 6th floor, please utilize the "Request" option in OneSearch or complete a request via the Library Paging Service. The Pollak Library is an officially designated selective Federal Depository Library. It receives about 50% of the publications in both tangible & electronic formats available through the Federal Depository Library Program. The Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) was established by Congress to ensure that the American public has access to its Government's information. Since 1813, depository libraries have safeguarded the public's right to know by collecting, organizing, maintaining, preserving, and assisting users with information from the Federal Government. The Library's United States Government Documents Collection consists of approximately 258,000 paper documents, 670,000 microforms, 7600 maps and 2500 CD-ROMs.
